Day-Brite Capri Omega Launches Employee Sustainability Program

Day-Brite Capri Omega (DCO) is making efforts to protect the environment through the enhancement of its energy performance. An organization wide energy management approach will help improve its financial health, increase value, and aid in preserving the environment for future generations.

In 2007, DCO became an Energy Star partner where it committed its executive management team to initially develop proper metrics to benchmark its energy consumption tracking progress and then set the goal of reducing its energy consumption by 25% in five years. By participating as an elite member of the Energy Star partners program, DCO can leverage the knowledge from those businesses in different industries that have managed successful energy reduction programs.

DCO’s sustainability goals include supporting responsible growth as a manufacturer by developing green manufacturing processes and other environmental strategies and as a lighting component manufacturer, leveraging innovations to develop sustainable lighting—lighting that meets users needs with the least consumption of energy and other resources.

DCO is also taking their initiatives straight to its employees. “In the last few weeks we have leveraged the programmed employee communications update meetings at DCO to convey an increased awareness into the sustainability activities taking place in our company. The intent was to increase employee participation in sustainability practices at work as well as at home,” said Nick Bleeker, director of business development at DCO.

DCO asked its employees to be responsive and proactive both at work and at home by changing any incandescent lights to the more energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), halogen bulbs, or LEDs. In order for employees to begin participating in this initiative, each employee was given a 13 watt CFL to take home and replace their incandescent lamps.
