How Are U.S. Cities Planning to Use Federal Stimulus Funds?

Image Credit: Matt GroeningHundreds of mayors will gather to discuss plans for stimulus implementation in cities and metropolitan areas across the country during the 77th Annual Meeting of The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), led by Conference President and Miami (FL) Mayor Manny Diaz from June 12 to 15 in Providence, RI.

Hosted by Providence Mayor David Cicilline, this event is the largest annual gathering of U.S. mayors. In addition to Recovery Act implementation, the meeting will also highlight illegal guns and gun violence, energy independence, education, and the 2010 Census. At the culmination of the meeting, mayors will debate and vote on national policy recommendations to forward to Congress and the new Administration.

Invited speakers include: President Obama, Vice President Biden, and several cabinet secretaries — Housing, Energy, Transportation, Education, Justice, Treasury, Commerce, State, Homeland Security, Labor, EPA and the FBI — Presidential Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett as well as key members of Congress.
