Step ‘n Wash is a self-retracting step that enables children to reach sink and soap dispensers in public restrooms safely. The product was designed to address the challenge caregivers face in lifting young children to wash their hands in public restrooms—an awkward process that is not only uncomfortable but can also cause water to spill on the floor (a safety hazard). With Step ‘n Wash, children and others of short stature can access the sink for a quicker and safer hand washing process.
Ideal for facilities where children are frequently present, Step ‘n Wash has been installed in schools, zoos, aquariums, museums, amusement parks, airports, restaurants, shopping malls, and houses of worship. Among those facilities using the product are Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Whole Foods Market, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Doug Strachan, airport innovations manager at the Atlanta airport, said, “Step ‘n Wash adds a significant value for our passengers. Because of its curved leg design, when an adult uses a sink where Step ‘n Wash has been installed, they do not come in contact with the product. And there are no pinch-points on the product. As a further safety measure, when a child steps off of Step ‘n Wash, a hydraulic damper automatically returns the step back up underneath the sink and out of the way.
The product is constructed from type 304 stainless steel. Legs and step are made from 14 gauge stainless steel. And the step features a marine grade non-slip rubber tread. Step ‘n Wash has been tested by Intertek ETL SEMKO, an OSHA approved national testing facility. Able to withstand a static load greater than 600 pounds, the step is secured to the floor with four stainless steel anchors. Each anchor has a tension rating of over 3900 pounds and a shear rating of over 3000 pounds. All installation hardware is included with each unit.
