Focus On: Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)

Facility Executive serves as a comprehensive resource for facility professionals who regularly purchase product and services for their facilities. In this web exclusive IAQ product focus, the editors present several offerings on the market. These are in addition to the products you will find featured in each issue of the magazine.

AeraMax® Professional by AeraMax® Professional AeraMax® Professional
The AeraMax Professional is a turnkey commercial grade air purification system that has earned asthma & allergy friendly™ Certification from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA). Available as both a floor standing and a wall-mounted unit, it combats odors, germs, allergens, VOCs, and other problem causing air impurities, helping to remove 99.9% of airborne particles as small as .3 microns (including airborne flu particles) in shared spaces such as restrooms, cafeterias, classrooms, and waiting areas. The AeraMax Professional features patented EnviroSmart™ technology that adjusts the air cleaner’s settings automatically based on the changing conditions within the room to optimize cleaning performance and energy efficiency. Its granular activated carbon filter absorbs odors and VOCs completely without the use of chemicals. The system purifies the air in four stages—pre-filter, carbon filter, true HEPA filter, and PlasmaTrue™ biopolar ionizer—to provide clean indoor air throughout the entire shared space. (Learn more about cleaning the air in facilities by attending “Cleaner Facilities & Flu Protection” – a free webinar presented by AeraMax Professional on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 2pmEST. UVMatrix ECS by Ultravation, Inc. UVMatrix ECS by Ultravation, Inc.
The UVMatrix ECS (Energy/Climate/Smart) conditions indoor air to reduce illnesses, allergic reactions, and generally improve indoor air quality while reducing HVAC energy use. It is an energy saving IAQ system that leverages the Ultravation SI-Series (uses UVC light to disinfect HVAC coils in large air handlers), photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) purification technology, and system monitoring to create a complete HVAC enhancement package. The UVMatrix ECS prevents biological growth (e.g., microscopic mold) that commonly grows on large air handler HVAC cooling coils (optimizing heat transfer) and removes VOCs (e.g., most odors, smog, car exhaust, and other fumes) from the HVAC airstream via PCO. This helps reduce airborne mold allergens as well as airborne bacteria and viruses, which can broken down into harmless odor-free component parts. UVMatrix ECS also includes the monitoring needed to confirm performance. UV intensity, operating time, and lamp status are reported in the remote control panel mounted on the outside of the air handler. If one lamp should go out, a third-party remote alarm or building automation can be triggered. UVMatrix ECS features a patented flexible design for a good fit to virtually any air handler, stainless steel construction and water tight seals for reliability and long life, and low UV system energy consumption through the use of standard output UV lamps.

Fresh Wave IAQ M130 Vapor Phase Unit by OMI IndustriesFresh Wave IAQ M130 Vapor Phase Unit by OMI Industries
Suitable for removing organic and inorganic odors, the Fresh Wave IAQ M130 Vapor Phase Unit provides a dry dispersion system for the efficient and economical application of Fresh Wave IAQ Air & Surface odor eliminator. The mobile unit is equipped with swiveling casters as well as side-mounted lift handles to move easily between hotel rooms, rental properties, or around a restoration job site. The M130 implements the Fresh Wave IAQ Air & Surface Liquid, a proprietary blend of environmentally friendly ingredients, including water, lime, pine needles, aniseed, clove, and cedarwood. This blend is effective at eliminating tough odors such as smoke, mildew, chemical fumes, vomit, feces, urine, and food. To operate the unit, users remove the fill tube cap, fill the tank with a maximum of two gallons of Fresh Wave IAQ Air & Surface Liquid, plug the unit in, and turn it on. The M130 Vapor Phase unit disperses sub-micron size Fresh Wave IAQ molecules into the air. These dry vapor particles are able to eliminate malodors in the air and on surfaces while also penetrating into draperies, upholstery, bedding, wallpaper, carpets, and other surfaces. There is no need to evacuate the area being treated while the unit is in use.

Humiditrol® by Lennox®Humiditrol® by Lennox®
Humiditrol is an integrated dehumidification system for rooftop units and small split systems. Its dehumidification-on-demand design removes moisture based on relative humidity levels, independent of room temperature. This helps improve indoor air quality by reducing the spread of allergens such as mold, mildew, and dust mites and helping to control mold-related repair and maintenance costs. The Humiditrol system removes moisture with minimal effect on temperature, avoiding problems with overcooling. Humiditrol is available on the Energence® rooftop unit as a factory-installed option or on the advanced system (3 ton to 5 ton models) using up to 20% less energy. It maintains ASHRAE 90.2-2007 requirements with operation driven by the Prodigy® unit controller (initiates dehumidification when the room temperature is satisfactory but humidity is above the desired set point). The system allows all compressors to provide full-load dehumidification and part-load cooling. Humiditrol is also available as field-installed accessory on S-Class® and T-Class™ commercial air conditioner and heat pump split systems. Installation and operation require no additional control boards or sensors but do require a Lennox® variable-speed furnace or air handler, air conditioner or heat pump, and iComfort Wi-Fi® touchscreen thermostat.
