New Product Flash: SpillFix by American Green Ventures

absorbentSpillFix by American Green Ventures is an industrial organic absorbent. It absorbs hazardous and non-hazardous liquid spills instantly on contact including oils, fuels, solvents, paints, and chemicals, enabling faster, cleaner, safer, and more effective clean up with minimal downtime.

SpillFix is made from a bi-product of the coconut (coir), which is an organic, renewable resource that is non-carcinogenic, contains no chemicals, and is silica free for a safe and non-hazardous worksite. When compared to clay-based absorbents, SpillFix requires 80% less product to clean up spills in less than half the time. It is dust-free, non-abrasive, and there is no after residue (often left with heavy sticky clay or absorbent pads).

absorbentBiologically stable, SpillFix absorbs hydrocarbon spills by encapsulating the liquid and trapping it inside its hollow channel structure. After users identify and isolate the spill (follow workplace procedures for cleanup and disposal), SpillFix is applied to the perimeter of the spill to stop its migration. The absorbent should be applied until the spill is completely covered and no liquid is visible. Once covered, users sweep with a stiff broom, working dry material over the spill area to remove all surface liquid. SpillFix can be reused when it is not completely saturated unless the absorbed liquid is unduly hazardous.

Used SpillFix that has absorbed hydrocarbons can be used as a fuel source in energy producing incinerators.

Disposal in a landfill may be possible in accordance with local regulations, as SpillFix has been tested to U.S. EPA Leachate standards for safe landfill disposal with no environmental impact.
