Illness cited as top reason for home-based workers

In a survey of over 1,000 home-based customer service workers, over one-fourth of them had a major illness or a major illness in their family that prevented them from working a traditional office job. However, they were able to continue to work as home-based agents.

Specifically asked participants to answer the following question.
While working as a home-based agent, have you or a family member suffered from a major illness that would have prevented you from working in a traditional office?
(1978 responses)
No 1449 (73%)
Yes 529 (26%)

The poll, conducted by LiveOps, makes use of home based call center employees. More than half of the company’s agents are stay-at-home moms who need the flexibility.
