Question Of The Week: Weekly Sprinkler Tests

This week’s question comes from the Facilities Management Group on LinkedIn.

I manage a 150,000-square-foot distribution centre which has water sprinkler system to protect stock in the event of fire. The system consists of a electric, diesel, and jockey pump and large water tower. Part of the weekly tests procedure includes bell tests. There are many hazards involved in the testing process including falling from height, dropping objects from height, drowning, fumes, and burns from the diesel exhaust system and high noise levels. Testing takes about 1 hour per week. Given this, I would be interested to know if people regard the testing procedure as a one- or two-person job?
