The WELL Core & Shell Certification and pre-Certification programs were developed in response to demand for workplaces focused on the health and well-being of the people in the buildings.

To kick off efforts to identify pioneering projects to champion the internationalization of WELL, the International Towers Sydney (ITS), Barangaroo, will be the first WELL Core & Shell Certified buildings globally representing over 2.7 million square feet. Lendlease has also identified additional buildings around the world to undergo certification, covering Australia, Europe, and the U.S.

“The engagement of Lendlease to internationalize WELL in key markets has been critical in the formation of the new WELL Core & Shell Certification and pre-Certification programs,” said Paul Scialla, Founder and CEO of Delos. “Lendlease’s pioneering leadership will help shape the evolution of health and wellness in real estate globally, just as it has helped to set the pace in sustainability, and we look forward to advancing this critically important agenda together.”

Lendlease and Delos first announced their alliance in November 2015, making a commitment to bring human health and wellness innovations to Lendlease markets around the world through adoption of the WELL Building Standard™ (WELL).

“Our customers – the people who use the places we create – are increasingly focused on encouraging healthier more active lifestyles and reducing exposure to harmful materials. We’re partnering with Delos to help harness the built environment to support human health and well-being through the implementation of the WELL Building Standard,” said Geoff Dutaillis, Lendlease’s Group Head of Sustainability.

Lendlease’s new corporate headquarters within Tower Three of ITS will target Platinum, the highest WELL Certification level, in addition to its commitment to a 6 Star Green Star Fit Out.

Romilly Madew, Chief Executive Officer of the Green Building Council of Australia, says Australia’s property industry has a global reputation for delivering world’s best practice in green buildings and communities. The partnership between Lendlease and Delos expands on the world-class outcomes promoted by Green Star around health and well-being.

“At its heart, the green building movement has always been about creating healthy and efficient places for people – central in the creation of a sustainable future,” said Madew. “Green Star and the WELL Building Standard are complementary. Green Star provides a critical foundation for human health and well-being, which WELL enhances through its dedicated focus on evidence-based medical and scientific research and measurable performance. Lendlease’s many 6 Star Green Star ratings represent world leadership in sustainable design and construction, and this partnership to advance WELL buildings will help our industry in its quest to make our cities great places to live by support the productivity and health of our greatest asset – people.”

Pioneered by Delos, the WELL Building Standard is the world’s first building standard focused exclusively on human health and wellness. It marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based medical and scientific research – harnessing the built environment as a vehicle to support human health and well-being.

WELL is grounded in evidence-based medical research that demonstrates the connection between the buildings where people spend more than 90 percent of their time and health and wellness impacts occupants. WELL is administered by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI™) and third-party certified by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).
