The new 3M Thinsulate™ Window Film Climate Control Series provides the traditional benefits of 3M™ Sun Control Window Film by rejecting heat and blocking UV rays. But it takes performance a step further to protect against heat loss during cold weather, featuring a patented construction that helps reflect more interior heat back into a room.window film

Featuring Thinsulate technology, this new product is a low emissivity (Low E) window film which improves the insulation value of a typical single pane window close to that of a double pane window, and the insulation value of a typical double pane window close to a triple pane window. It has been tested for performance on clear, tinted, double clear, and double tinted glass (1/4″ thickness).

Minnesota Governor’s Residence

To maintain facility aesthetics, 3M Thinsulate Climate Control Window film is virtually invisible. It has a neutral appearance that will not dramatically change the look of existing windows.

Thinsulate window film was recently installed at the Minnesota Governor’s Residence. Because the residence is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a publicly owned building, maintaining the existing appearance, character and windows at the facility was a critical mandate as was reducing energy consumption.

Performance testing of Thinsulate 75 on clear, 1/4″ glass is reported by 3M as follows:

  • Visible light – 12% reflected (interior); 16% reflected (exterior); and 74% transmitted
  • Total solar energy rejected – 47%
  • Solar heat gain coefficient (G value): 0.53
  • U Value: btu/hft2F – 0.62; w/m2K – 3.6
  • Heat loss reduction: 40%
  • Heat gain reduction: 35%
  • UV light rejected: 99.9%
  • Glare reduction: 17%
  • Visible light to solar heat gain ratio: 1.4
