Appleton UPR Series Electrical Safety

Wall sockets and plugs for safe power connection in hazardous locations.

The UPR Series of plugs and receptacles from Appleton help drive greater electrical safety. They are suitable for connecting power in demanding industrial locations, satisfying electrical codes that include ATEX and IECEx.

electrical safetyCompact, lightweight, and corrosion resistant, UPR Series plugs and receptacles can connect power to portable or stationery electrical equipment, such as industrial lighting systems, heaters, conveyors, motor generators, compressors, and pumps. They simplify specification in hazardous locations and can be used in corrosive atmospheres and installations in Zone 1, 2, 21, and 22 of the oil and gas industry (e.g., refineries, offshore rigs, chemical and petrochemical plants, pipelines, loading docks). In addition, the same UPR plug employed in a hazardous location can be used safely in a standard, non-hazardous area when connected to an interlocking non-hazardous receptacle—an advantage that broadens the use of portable electrical equipment throughout a facility.

Both 16 Amp and 32 Amp UPR models are constructed of rugged, non-metallic polyamide for corrosion-resistance. They provide critical electrical safety features like color-coding to ensure proper identification of matching voltages and mechanical interlock so that disengagement cannot occur while energized. Further, a keyed design with “clocked” ground-pin position prevents insertion of plugs into receptacles wired for a different voltage or phase configuration. Adding to operational safety is a lockable external switch that complies with IEC 60309-1, allowing the receptacle to be locked in either the “on” or “off” position while providing visual confirmation of status to workers. The receptacle is also equipped with an explosion proof switch.

The UPR Series 16 Amp low voltage (LV) Wall Mounting Socket has two M25 threaded entries on the bottom (top available upon request). Fitted with two linked earth terminals, it is supplied with one M25 cable gland (Ø 8 to Ø 18.5 mm) and one M25 blanking plug. Terminal capacity is 2 x 2½ to 4 mm2 and can be through-wired up to 4mm2. The 16 Amp Plug (LV) has an integrated cable clamp (Ø 9.2 to Ø 17 mm) and terminal capacity 2.5 mm2 to 4 mm2.

The UPR Series 32 Amp Wall Mounting Socket (LV) has two M32 threaded entries on the bottom (top available upon request). Fitted with two linked earth terminals, it is supplied with one M32 cable gland (Ø 10 to Ø 25 mm) and one M32 blanking plug. Terminal capacity is 2 x 6 to 10 mm2 (0.009 to 0.016 in2) and can be through-wired up to 6mm2 (0.009 in2). The 32 Amp Plug (LV) has one integrated cable clamp (Ø 14.1 to Ø 29.1 mm) for 3P+N+E versions and terminal capacity 6 mm2 to 10 mm2.

All UPR Series Wall Sockets and Plugs for electrical safety have an operating temperature of -4°F to 131°F. Regardless of model, the yellow voltage is 100/130 VAC, blue is 200/250 VAC, red is 380/415 VAC, and black is either 480/500 VAC or 600/690 VAC.
