MechoSystems’ Shadecloth Families Earn Sustainable Status

shadeclothMechoSystems, a provider of window management solutions, has announced that eight of its shadecloth families, comprised of 19 Series, have earned sustainable status from three reputable organizations ─ Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Material Health Certificates, Health Product Declarations®(HPD) and Declare Labels™.

  • EcoVeil Sheer™ has earned a C2C Material Health Certificate, a Health Product Declaration and a Declare Label.
  • AcoustiVeil®, which previously earned a Declare Label, now has added a C2C Material Health Certificate at the Bronze Level.
  • EcoVeil®, which already has a complete C2C Certification, has now added a compliant HPD.
  • ThermoVeil®, EuroVeil®, EuroTwill®, SoHo and Chelsea each has their own compliant HPDs.

The wide-range of product offerings enable customers pursuing LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) v4 and WELL Building Standard® to choose from a variety of aesthetics and price points. All of the shadecloths listed above contribute to LEED v4 MR Credit: Building Product Disclosure and Organization – Material Ingredients; Option 1 – Material Ingredient Reporting. Projects pursuing WELL certification can use the documentation to achieve Feature 26 – Enhanced Material Safetyy and Feature 97 – Material Transparency.

The versatile EcoVeil Sheer fabric is woven from pigmented yarns, rather than piece-dyed, which allows for sophisticated patterns. The broken twill weave is reversible and is woven in a palette of cooler whites and off whites as well as warm midtones and sleek greys that can be cleaned with soap and water. It is available in 1% and 3% openness in a broken twill weave and stocked at 118 inches wide. The wide width is well-suited for larger windows that are often included in today’s buildings. It is the first commercially-available shadecloth that is able to pass NFPA®701 without requiring chemical flame retardants.

AcoustiVeil Dimout is an eco-friendly acoustical shadecloth that filters light and absorbs sound and has a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.575. Made of 100% polyester, the shadecloth is lightweight and protects from excessive glare through the window. The AcoustiVeil 0890 Series is available in white, pearl grey and black, is PVC free and is stocked 86 inches wide.

As an integral element of MechoSystems’manual, UrbanShade® or Mecho®/5 systems, the EcoVeil screen products represent the first complete window treatments to be recognized as Cradle to Cradle CertifiedBronze products. These non-PVC shadecloths are woven of an extruded proprietary fiber whose thermoplastic olefin (TPO) jacket covers a polyolefin core. EcoVeil weighs about a third less than traditional PVC/polyester screen cloths.

The ThemoVeil Series is composed of a tightly woven translucent material in a linear weave. The 0900 Series allows light to enter the interior from the outside during the daytime, while maintaining privacy at night. Also available in a dense vertical weave and reversible satin/diamond weave.

EuroVeil consists of a thin, fine, see-through screen cloth for window shading. It features a soft texture in a broad range of colors, is ideal for office interiors, and complements today’s minimalist architecture.

EuroTwill features finely woven shadecloths with a reversible face. Its extensive color range will complement any interior.

The SoHo Collection consists of thin, finely woven yarns combined with distinctive color themes that create unique, elegant solutions for any project. The 2 x 2 basket weave has a soft hand and smooth texture, supplying a minimal accent. In addition, the see-through sunscreen allows for exterior views while providing optimal solar-shading, controlling glare and heat gain to ensure occupant comfort.

This Chelsea Series combines a PVC free textile, available in six colors, with solid graphite-colored backing to create a shadecloth that can be specified with MechoSystems manual, motorized or automated roller-shade systems. The medium tone exterior color will easily blend with exterior facades and offers designers an option other than white to use in the window. The fabric can be cut in widths up to 96 inches.
