GEM Speed Key Kit Offers More Owner Control

Electronically limits vehicle speed when the owner is not on hand to monitor operation

The Speed Key Kit from Polaris® GEM® controls the performance available to individual drivers of Polaris® GEM® electric vehicles. It electronically limits vehicle speed when the owner is not available to monitor operation.vehicle speed

The kit features an alternate key which governs vehicle speed at either 10 miles per hour (mph), 15 mph, or 25 mph, allowing users to choose the best rate of speed for the task. The Speed Key Kit is available for 2016 and newer GEM models. Dealer installation is required.

Global Electric Motorcars (GEMs) are multipurpose, 100% all electric transportation and utility vehicles manufactured in Milford, Iowa. The batteries are charged with an onboard charger that plugs into a standard 110V outlet. It takes approximately six to eight hours to recharge a GEM car from a completely discharged state. In addition, with an optional fast charge package, GEM cars can be optimally charged in less than one hour. The ideal time to charge is at night when the demand for electric power is at its lowest, although the GEM car can be plugged in virtually anywhere, at any time, to top off the charge or to completely charge the vehicle.

vehicle speedGEM offers more built-in comfort and street-legal safety features than a golf cart, and is more maneuverable, cost-efficient, and sustainable than a truck or van. GEM’s quiet electric power also offers low-cost, low maintenance driving, averaging just $.03 per mile to operate. GEM is the leading brand in the LSV (Low Speed Vehicle) market and can be driven on streets in most states with a speed limit of up to 35 mph. The vehicle is versatile enough to be driven on a variety of outdoor surfaces including, sidewalks and grassy areas. Because it is electric, GEM can be driven indoors as well.

All this versatility is paired with safety and comfort features. Whether moving people or cargo, the new GEM vehicles make getting there more fun.

  1. Where is the speed key kit installed? I just bought two used, 2016 models, and they are governed in some way. But I don’t see the speed key under the hood. Is there some other way that it might be governed? And if so, how would I have that removed so it will reach 25mph? Currently, it maxes out at 10mph.
