Astrophysics, Inc. has been selected to supply X-ray scanners for next year’s 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. In partnership with its local dealer, Astrophysics will deliver scanners needed to secure the venues, screen spectators, and inspect shipments at the Olympic Games.
The contract calls for machines ranging from XIS-6040 checkpoint units up to XIS-1517 cargo scanners. All equipment will be outfitted to handle freezing winter weather and configured to withstand temperatures as low as 14°F. This award comes two months after the 29th Worldwide Universiade Games in Taipei, Taiwan, in which Astrophysics delivered nearly 100 X-ray scanners for checkpoint security at the Games.
The XIS-6040 X-Ray Inspection System is suitable for both small parcel and checkpoint screening. With its small frame, it maintains high mobility but with a wider tunnel size for varied application. The inspection system measures 56″ L x 33″ W x 49″ H with a 23.6″ W x 15.7″ H tunnel opening for a range of placement and expanded screening capability. The XIS-6040 features a 160kV generator that provides crisp, high resolution images due to its advanced software and processing technology.
The XIS-1517 200kV is the premier heavy duty X-Ray Inspection System designed for screening crates, cargo, and pallet sized objects at all security sites, including airports and customs locations. It measures 264″ L x 102″ W x 88″ H with a 59″ W x 67″ H tunnel opening. With a low conveyor height of 15″ above floor level, loading and unloading of heavy freight is simple. The XIS-1517 200kV has a 200kV generator for superior penetration and high quality imaging.The XIS-1517 is also available with a generator output of 180kV or 320kV.
