Bacarach MGS-550 Gas Leak Detector

Enables Gas Leak Detection in Industrial Refrigeration Applications

Leak detector offers two sensor capability locally and/or remotely

The MGS-550 from Bacarach® is an advanced leak detector that meets the requirements of EN 378 and ASHRAE 15. It combines electrochemical, semiconductor (MOS), catalytic bead, and infrared sensors into one platform. This supports leak detection for the low GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerant blends as well as natural refrigerants to enable gas leak detection in the often harsh environments of industrial refrigeration.

leak detectorThe MGS-550 can be connected to any central control system using the current and volt analog output or the Modbus RTU interface. The Modbus RTU interface allows the user to program and configure the unit remotely through the building management system (BMS). Alternatively, electrical current or volt analog output provides an industry standard reading using 4-20mA.

be individually programmed to trigger alarm devices and actions separately or as a redundant system.

The straightforward menu structure is identical throughout the platform regardless of the type of sensors used. This reduces the amount of training required for installation and maintenance. At any point in time, the leak detector can be upgraded from a one sensor to a two sensor system by registering another sensor; there is no need for additional controllers. This offers the benefit of detecting two gases in two locations with one instrument. Any sensor can be remotely mounted from the main instrument to a distance of 15′ for flexible placement in hard to reach areas.

leak detectorThe MGS-550 continuously monitors indoor or outdoor ambient air for toxic gases such as ammonia, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ethylene, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone; combustible gases such as methane, propane, butane, and LPG; and refrigerants that include hydrocarbons, HFCs, HCFCs, and CFCs. Semiconductor, infrared, and catalytic bead sensors have a temperature range of -40°F to 122°F and electrochemical has a range of -5°F to 122°F (5% to 90% relative humidity, noncondensing).

The MGS-550 features a status indicator and LED display for an at-a-glance status overview and a comprehensive direct user interface. The industrial refrigerant gas detector comes with IP66 ABS or aluminum enclosure options. An optional MGS Controller is available so users can create an independent, centralized alarm system with up to six gas detectors.
