Dogs are more than just pets these days; they are members of the family. In growing numbers, people want their dogs to be part of nearly every aspect of their lives. That includes vacations: An increasing number of U.S. pet owners take their pets with them when they travel — 37 percent, up from 19 percent about 10 years ago, according to a survey by the American Pet Products Association (APPA). The travel industry has taken notice, with the number of pet-friendly hotels on the rise.
One hotel has taken the dog-friendly designation to a new level: As the host hotel for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania is ready for another year of hosting the canine hopefuls that will take part in the 142nd event on February 12 and 13.
Located across the street from where the Groups, Junior Showmanship Finals and important Best In Show events are held, the Hotel Pennsylvania continues to be a “pup-ular” choice with dogs and their humans. This is due to a variety of exclusive services and amenities, including ‘pup’tual Westminster wedding ceremonies and an annual star-studded Pet Fashion Show. The hotel also offers the Room To Groom S’paw’, New York’s largest in-door doggie spa, which offers canines everything they need to get ready for the big show: bathing tubs, dog grooming area, exercise/fitness area, and an in-house relieving area.
Hotel Pennsylvania doesn’t only put on the dog for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show: it’s also a proud sponsor of National Dog Day (NDD). NDD helps galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues. It also honors family dogs and dogs that work save lives, keep people safe, and bring comfort. Founded in 2004, NDD is celebrated each year on August 26.
