In 2018, Rubbermaid Commercial Products (RCP) is celebrating 50 years of business, and of BRUTE, the company’s utility refuse container. BRUTE is known for its iconic durability, and to highlight the company’s half-century milestone and this iconic brand, RCP included a focus on the container at its booth during the recent ISSA Show in Dallas, TX.
RCP first started making the BRUTE container in 1968, and in the mid-80s the company began placing a date stamp on the bottom of each BRUTE. For several months prior to the 2018 ISSA Show, the company held a contest with its sales reps to see who could find the oldest BRUTE that is still being used today. They were able to find a BRUTE that was made before the start of date stamping, and based on the NSF logo on the container, it was determined that the container was made between 1968 and 1972. Displayed here (at left) alongside a current model, this historic BRUTE has been used every day for the last 50 years, and it is still just as durable as the day it was made.
