Hudson Yards in New York City officially opens to the public today, March 15, 2019. To celebrate this milestone, EarthCam premiered its 4K construction time-lapse movie for the development. Based in Upper Saddle River, NJ, EarthCam provides live streaming video, time-lapse construction cameras, and photography documentation for corporate and government clients. From December 2012 to March 2019, the company’s cameras documented each stage of Hudson Yards, the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States. More than 3 million megapixel photographs and 500,000 hours of imagery were archived, including ultra-widescreen panoramic views of Manhattan cityscape.

Hudson Yards is the largest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center. The site includes more than 18 million square feet of commercial and residential space, more than 100 shops, a collection of restaurants, approximately 4,000 residences, The Shed, New York’s first arts center to commission new work across the performing arts, visual arts, and popular culture, 14 acres of public open space, a 750-seat public school and an Equinox Hotel® with more than 200 rooms.

“It’s been a rewarding experience working with The Related Companies to document this iconic development”, said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam. “The massive scale of this project presented unique challenges, requiring continual reprogramming of more than 72 robotic camera angles positioned around Manhattan’s West Side and across the Hudson River in New Jersey. We hope this time-lapse does justice to the story of this epic achievement.”
