Pet Rescue Saves Energy Costs With Rooftop Solar System

Dynamic Energy Solutions installed a 207-kilowatt rooftop system that’s expected save the Simon Foundation close to $1 million over the system's life.

A new rooftop solar array installed at The Simon Foundation Inc.’s Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in Bloomfield, CT will significantly reduce the foundation’s electricity costs, allowing it to apply those funds to animals in need.

The Simon Foundation, Inc. is a charitable organization dedicated to the preservation and adoption of dogs and cats that would otherwise be abandoned, neglected, abused, or euthanized. The 207-kilowatt (kW) rooftop system was installed by Dynamic Energy Solutions, LLC and is expected to produce more than 230,000 kilowatt hours annually, which will supply approximately 80 percent of the facility’s annual electricity consumption. The rooftop array is estimated to save the Simon Foundation close to $1 million over the system’s life.

“The installation of this new solar energy system will allow us significant savings on operational costs,” said Lisa W. Agresti, Executive Director at the Simon Foundation. “Those funds can then be used to further our mission of, ‘Until there are none, adopt one.’ This is a great opportunity to make a huge difference in the lives of these animals.”

In addition to the financial benefits expected, the solar array will also reduce the foundation’s carbon footprint. The energy produced by the solar system equates to offsetting 165 tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent to offsetting emissions from 402,844 miles driven by a passenger vehicle.

Project financing for the array was managed by Greenworks Lending, a leading provider of Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) financing solutions, based in Connecticut.

“We founded Greenworks Lending to scale the success of C-PACE programs nationally by providing a common capital resource to commercial properties,” said Alexandra Cooley, COO of Greenworks Lending. “The benefits to property owners and communities of energy saving projects are significant; but for me, it’s even more satisfying when we can apply the program to meet the needs of a charitable organization like the Simon Foundation.”

“Dynamic Energy is honored to be a part of this important project that showcases how solar energy can benefit people, pets, and the planet,” said Tim Carr, Vice President of Business Development at Dynamic Energy Solutions. “We applaud Greenworks Lending for their participation and The Simon Foundation for its leadership as it continues saving the lives of animals across Connecticut.”
