Fusion 285 Wall System Features JM Cladstone Water & Fire Block

New Fusion™ 285 wall system is designed for performance and safety, and is first system to meet new NFPA 2019 regulations.

Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company and building products manufacturer, has announced that JM CladStone™ Water & Fire Block is included in a new wall system, Fusion™ 285, specifically designed to meet requirements for achieving the National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 285, a commercial wall assembly fire test. Fusion 285 is the first system nationwide to meet the requirement, which evaluates the flame propagation characteristics of an exterior, non-load-bearing wall assembly.

Fusion 285 wall systemJM CladStone is approved for use in the defined wall assembly in commercial construction projects, types I through IV for buildings higher than 59 feet. When used in the defined wall assembly, the solution will delay the spread of fire in a building.

“As part of this new wall system, our CladStone product helps fulfill architect and building owner goals in safety and innovation, top priorities for Johns Manville,” said Tommy Knappich, vice president and general manager of Building Insulation at Johns Manville. “JM CladStone and the Fusion 285 wall system are designed to provide fire protection in line with the latest regulations, confirming our commitment to evolving products to meet the diverse needs and performance expectations of customers.”

JM CladStone insulation is a noncombustible continuous insulation mineral wool product, specifically manufactured for superior performance in rainscreen applications. Made from basalt, a volcanic rock, this premium mineral wool product allows for the effective drainage of water from an exterior wall cavity system, while offering exceptional fire resistance, thermal efficiency and acoustical performance.

JM partnered with Carter Architectural Panels, Inc., Elval Colour, USG Sheetrock, Tremco and Tenmat to create the Fusion 285 wall system. The wall system and JM CladStone are currently available to customers in the U.S.
