Due to increased interest regarding the topic of nanotechnology, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) will host a second Audio Conference this August 9 from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM CST to discuss the latest information on nanotechnology and its impact on safety, health and environment professionals, organizations, and the safety profession. Nanotechnology involves devices and structures at the atomic level, as nanoparticles are one-billionth of a meter. Workers dealing with nanotechnology require protection from exposures to harmful nanoparticles, such as inhalation through the lungs and from skin contact.

The conference call will focus on the hazards of nanoparticles and on evaluation and control of nanoparticles in the workplace and environment. The presentation will also provide some best management practices to minimize the risk to workers in industries that use engineered nanoparticles. It will look at the latest regulatory developments at OSHA, EPA, and other agencies as well as present information from leading experts about the future of regulations, toxicological and epidemiological research, and safety and health surveillance.

ASSE member Robert Adams, CIH, CSP, will lead the presentation and discuss safety issues, hazards, and exposures dealing with nanotechnology. Adams is a manager in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and Technology at ENVIRON International Corporation, where he serves as team leader of the company’s occupational safety and health nanotechnology initiative.

Registrants will have access to the audio conference, a PowerPoint presentation, resource materials, articles, and an audio compact disk after the call. To register for the call, contact ASSE Customer Service at 847-699-2929.
