I don’t know how many of you saw this Oct. 5 blurb from Reuters, but for some reason, it struck me as amusing (in a facility management/editorial kind of way)….

Here’s a recap. Apparently, maintenance work was being performed on some of the letters of the International Monetary Fund’s new building (with new signage), which opened this past May. After the “L” fell off, crews discovered a few other key letters (“A” and “D”) were loose. As it turns out,
The missing “L” was found around the corner from the ultra-modern building’s Pennsylvania Avenue entrance. “They’re not quite sure how it got over there,” spokeswoman Frances Hardin said, adding all the letters have since been cleaned and reaffixed.
Is it just me? Or do you wonder why, at a cost of $150 million, they couldn’t get sturdier signage at the IMF? And what do they mean when they say they’re not quite sure how the letter ended up around the corner from the building?
