Georgia-Pacific’s DensElement Project Map

The Online Resource Provides Interactive Access to DensElement Projects Nationwide

The DensElement™ Project Map from Georgia-Pacific is an online tool that plots the location of projects using the DensElement™ Barrier System along with their location, architect, general contractor, and high-level project details.

barrier systemThe patent-pending DensElement Barrier System with AquaKOR™ Technology redefines the typical water-resistive and air barrier (WRB-AB) system. Instead of installing a WRB-AB membrane over the face of a building’s sheathing, the DensElement Sheathing has a WRB-AB integrated right into its gypsum core, beneath the fiberglass mat to create a consistent, performance-tested WRB-AB. This all-in-one Dens® brand system is then finished with PROSOCO R-Guard® FastFlash® liquid flashing to fill and seal joints, fasteners, openings, penetrations, and transitions.

AquaKOR Technology is the chemistry that Georgia-Pacific Gypsum pioneered to ensure that the WRB-AB functions in a consistent manner from edge-to-edge of the DensElement Sheathing core. When traditional WRB-AB systems are applied over the field of the sheathing, improper installation, like ripped building wrap or fluid-applied membranes spread too thin, can create inconsistencies in their ability to protect the entire wall from moisture or air infiltration. But, with the DensElement Barrier System, the WRB-AB is barrier systemprotected between GOLD Dens® brand fiberglass sheathing. This proprietary expertise was developed with the building envelope in mind—keep walls dry to avoid envelope failure. When moisture penetrates the structural wall cavity through areas like rough openings, it needs to dry out to avoid mildew, mold, and deterioration.

DensElement eliminates the need for building wrap, fluid-applied membranes, or peel-and-stick membranes. It’s faster to install and can be installed when it’s wet outside—saving time and labor. The DensElement Barrier System resists bulk water, like rain, snow, and ice, and also has high vapor permeability that allows moisture to pass through the sheathing in both directions, in any climate, if it does enter the structural wall.

barrier systemThe DensElement Project Map creates a visual way for architects, engineers, contractors, and building owners to gain perspective on the accelerating adoption of the DensElement Barrier System on high-profile projects across the country. Using the online tool, online visitors can explore projects by location or project type (e.g., sports/recreation, education, healthcare, government/municipality, etc.).

“DensElement is an innovative proven solution progressive architects and contractors can rely on,” said Jason Peace, Senior Director of Marketing and Product Management for Georgia-Pacific Gypsum, “and we want to share the successes that these customers are experiencing.”

DensElement Barrier System is ABAA listed and WRB-AB approved, and has a customized MasterSpec® specification – 061656 Air and Water Resistive Sheathing Board.
