GlassBuild America Honors Ascent Windscreen

The Ascent Windscreen System is a post-supported glass system designed for commercial exterior use.

GlassBuild America honored the Ascent® Windscreen System from Trex Commercial Products during the annual Glass Magazine Awards ceremony. It was chosen by readers as the “Best Product Hardware or System” of 2019.

windscreenEach year, Glass Magazine, the official publication of the National Glass Association, recognizes stand-out glass and glazing products and projects in the commercial, retail, and fabrication markets. This year—for the first time in the program’s history—readers determined winners in the product award categories, selecting Ascent as an industry-leading innovation.

The Ascent Windscreen System from Trex Commercial Products is a post-supported glass system designed for commercial exterior use. It delivers unobstructed views while also diverting wind to create a more enjoyable outdoor environment and experience.

“Windscreen systems are growing in demand with the rising popularity of the al fresco experience. With this in mind, we designed Ascent to make outdoor areas more useful and enjoyable by providing safety and style without compromising views,” said John Lewis, president and CEO of Trex Commercial Products.

windscreenThe Ascent Windscreen System features ½” laminated glass infill. It is designed to withstand up to 80psf wind loads—8x the amount of most commercial windscreen systems—making it a suitable solution for protecting outdoor pools, dining areas, balconies, and terraces at virtually any elevation. At a standard height of 6′, Ascent provides extensive coverage for furniture and patrons; however, height is completely customizable based on individual project needs. Four finish options include Powder-Coated, Painted, Kynar®, and Anodized. Additionally, its 4″ x 4½” snap-fit aluminum posts with 1½” x 3″ steel stanchions make for quick, safe, and easy assembly.

Unlike traditional glass windscreens that require installers to lift large panes of glass and slide them in from the top of the post system, Ascent uses an easy-to-install aluminum snap-fit system with concealed fasteners. With one side of the post in place, the glass is positioned in front of the system and held in by double-sided foam tape. The tape holds the first pane of glass in while the next piece of glass is installed. The cover is then snapped in from the front, safely securing the ½” glass panel in place. To prevent corrosion, the posts are secured with an embedment or welded base plate, avoiding any contact with concrete.
