Approximately 300 emergency room visits each year can be attributed to injuries caused by automatic gates, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
A joint recall from Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and Extech instructs consumers to call for a replacement of affected products.
The fixtures can malfunction and fail to illuminate in the event of a power outage. This could result in a failure to provide adequate lighting to guide building occupants to an exit in the event of an emergency.
To participate in the replacement sprinkler program, property owners must submit "Proof of Claim" and "Waiver and Release of Claims" forms to Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation postmarked by June 1, 2011.
