Avert™ Sporicidal Disinfectant Cleaner and Avert™ Sporicidal Disinfectant Cleaner Wipes from Sealed Air’s Diversey Care division are task-oriented solutions for use during Clostridium difficile (C. diff) outbreaks or in hyper-endemic settings. They clean, disinfect, and deodorize hard, nonporous surfaces such as sinks, faucets, fixtures, bathrooms, restrooms, tubs, and showers in one step with no rinsing required.
Both Avert solutions offer a one-minute contact time effective against a broad spectrum of pathogens, including bacteria, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, viruses, and fungi (e.g., CRE, Norovirus, VRE, MRSA) and four minutes against C. diff spores. C. diff is a germ that can live for long periods of time on common shared surfaces and can spread from person to person via hand contact. It has become the most common cause of healthcare-related infections in U.S. hospitals.
“During an outbreak, facilities need to look beyond their daily disinfectant cleaners for a product with proven power to be effective against C. diff spores, which are more difficult to kill,” said Carolyn Cooke, Vice President Healthcare North America, Diversey Care. “With Avert, facilities can quickly and effectively target key areas to eliminate C. diff.”
The bleach-based Avert formula means there are no quat-binding concerns. The spray and wipes offer fresh, clean scents in gentle, low-odor formulas that meets the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) testing requirements for disinfectants with sporicidal claims against C. diff (ASTM E2197) as well as the AORN-recommended cleaning method for Prion contamination of environmental surfaces. The ready-to-use products’ 12,500ppm chlorine also exceeds CDC, SHEA, and APIC recommendations.
The Avert Sporicidal Disinfectant Cleaner (product code 100842725) is a pale yellow liquid with a pH of 12.5. It is applied by coarse trigger sprayer to hard, nonporous inanimate (environmental) surfaces. Surfaces should then be wiped dry with a dry paper towel, dry disposable wiper, lint-free cloth, microfiber cloth, or sponge. The Avert spray is safe for use on hospital-grade surfaces, including stainless steel, porcelain, glass, plastic, and glazed ceramic. It is available in 32 ounce spray bottles in packs of 12 and has a shelf life of one year.
The Avert Sporicidal Disinfectant Cleaner Wipes are available in two sizes: 6″ x 7″ wipes packaged in 12×160 canisters (product code 100895790) for cleaning and disinfection of standard patient care equipment and smaller areas, and 11″ x 12″ wipes packed in 4×160 canisters (product code 100895931) or in re-sealable and environmentally friendly refills (product code 100895932) for larger area cleaning and disinfection (e.g., patient rooms, operating rooms, emergency rooms).
