In Athens, Greece, repairs are being made to the roof of the Olympic Stadium. Officials reassure the public there is no serious safety issue, and there is no immediate threat of collapse.

Made from steel and glass and designed by Santiago Calatrava (who is also designing the new Fordham Spire in Chicago), the dome is in need of rewelding, because some of the supports were not aligned properly from the beginning.

A report in the Associated Press explains, “The synthetic glass-and-steel roof, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, was the centerpiece of the Athens Games last year. First-division soccer teams AEK and Panathinaikos now use the stadium for their home matches.”
