Norton 1601 Series Adjustable Door Closer

1601 Series door closers are now fully adjustable to meet the opening and closing force requirements for a wide range of doors.

1601 Series door closers from Norton Door Controls, an ASSA ABLOY Group brand, are now fully adjustable to meet the opening and closing force requirements for a wide range of doors. The flexibility of this unit to fit a large number of commercial applications simplifies product selection while minimizing inventory for installers and hardware distributors. Suitable applications for this adjustable door closer include medium traffic doors, such as aluminum storefronts, office doors, and storage closets.

adjustable door closer“The 1601 is the perfect door closer for so many of your medium-traffic doors, especially today’s growing market of aluminum storefronts,” said Lana Kirkpatrick, brand manager, Norton Door Controls. “Over the past 60 years, the 1601 has earned a strong reputation for reliability, and now that it’s adjustable, it should be a standard choice for all relevant openings.”

The 1601 Series door closers are for interior and exterior doors and have multi-size spring power adjustment to permit setting of the spring from one through four or three through six. They are non-handed for installation on right or left-hand swing doors and surface mounted to project no more than 2-7/8″ from the surface.

Beyond an adjustable size spring, the 1601 adjustable door closer is available in 18 arm configurations; painted, plated, and custom finishes (e.g., Bright Brass, Satin Nickel, White, Gold, Medium Amber, Black); and special drop plates and brackets. Its one-piece, high-strength aluminum alloy body and heavy-duty arms have endured stringent cycle testing to ensure a long life of proven reliability. A quick adjust slide arm makes for easy installation and adjustments. The 1601 ensures positive door control through separate latch, sweep, and backcheck intensity valves that can be finely tuned independently.

The 1601 Series NorGlide® door closer fluid contains lubricity and anti oxidation agents for optimum performance and efficiency. This fluid complements the interaction of the door closer’s aluminum housing with its steel and zinc components, while maintaining stable viscosity to enable performance in temperatures ranging from extremely high to as low as -40°F.

Optional features include Non-Hold Open so the door self-closes every time it is opened (an auxiliary stop is required except when using the CloserPlus®, CloserPlus Spring™, or unitrol® Arms) and Hold Open, which is achieved by means of friction or ball and detent/roller. Friction hold open has a range of 90° to 180° using template location and mechanical adjustment. Ball and detent or roller hold open is effective in a range of 85° to 110°. Hold open arm door closers are not permitted to be used on fire door assemblies.

Built for reliability, robustness, and simple installation, the 1601 Series adjustable door closer was designed to comply with the opening force requirements of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities ACT) and ANSI A117.1 for interior doors. The 1601 size one to six door closer is independently verified to exceed 25 million cycles and is offered with a 15-year limited warranty.
