Recent Survey Looks At FM Challenges, Opportunities For 2018

A provider of managed services and technology, Canon Business Process Services delves into which service issues are capturing the attention of facilities decision-makers.

As more companies continue to migrate to more agile workplaces in order to recruit a new generation of talent, create a more collaborative workplace, reduce square footage, and contain real estate costs, facilities management executives are part of the team focused on bringing these scenarios to fruition. Achieving these results requires companies to provide their employees with high-level facilities management services — a more demanding task in an agile workplace than a traditional business environment.managed services These and other trends are presenting facilities management executives with complex challenges, according to a new survey report released by Canon Business Process Services, a company that offers a comprehensive portfolio of managed services and technology to corporate customers.

The survey report, titled “The Road Ahead: Facilities Management Challenges and Opportunities in 2018”, was, created and implemented in conjunction with Facility Executive magazine. The survey and resulting document is designed to help facilities management leaders:

  • Share what they consider to be their top priorities
  • Clarify tools and techniques that might provide an edge in achieving their goals
  • Identify facilities management activities that pose the greatest challenge to success
  • Uncover possible hidden opportunities for driving continuous improvement in delivering exceptional support services

In one finding, respondents were asked to rank the tools, techniques, or methods that have the greatest impact on improving facilities support services. The most popular response (38%) was facilities management applications. One factor driving this finding might be that facility executives are embracing technology as never before. (See below for all complete breakdown of responses to this question.)

In another finding, survey respondents specified that maintaining the right staffing levels is the most difficult activity to manage compared to other responsibilities.

Besides providing insight on these and other findings, the survey report sheds light on the importance of supporting corporate sites by effectively managing what Canon terms corporate campus logistics. This is a specialized service that ensures the efficient flow of materials and people at large multi-building office campuses. It is a discipline that includes maintaining the right staffing levels, which Canon’s survey respondents deem as highly important but, as pointed out above, also very challenging to supervise.

The 12-page report can be accessed at the Canon Business Process Services website.

On Thursday, January 18, 2018, Canon will delve deeper into the survey and present further insights during a webinar presented with Facility Executive. Learn more and register for this free presentation at this link.
