Hard to believe that some experts are claiming the U.S. is in a less favorable position to defend itself against another attack than it was before the events of more than four years ago. Yet, those are some of the claims being raised in the final report from the bipartisan 9/11 commission.

At the heart of one of the issues is poor communication between federal and local authorities during emergencies–a shortcoming that surfaced again during Katrina coordination. These vulnerabilities will undoubtedly be explored once again in the next round of post-disaster investigations.
