Tricks Of The Trade: Fire Door Tags

What's the easiest way to deal with missing fire door tags? How do we address it? Do we have to replace the door, or can we just replace the tag?

Q We have more than a few fire doors missing their tags. Are other facility managers replacing the whole door in order to get the tag?

A If you’re referring to the fire rating door tags, then yes, if you cannot find an acceptable way to verify the fire rating of a door that is required in the opening, then this would be the only option. Once a door is assembled, the only way to determine if it has all necessary components to be the proper fire rating of today’s standards is with destructive examination.

Before spending a lot of money, I would encourage you to discuss the matter with your local Fire Marshal.
