Global FM Award Winners 2016

In conjunction with World FM Day today, July 13, Global FM announces its Global FM Awards of Excellence in FM 2016 winners.

“The Global FM Excellence in FM Awards elevates the very best facilities management projects to a global stage. All the submissions are award winners in their own right, as our member organisations select their very best candidates from their organisations over the past year. All of the entries highlight the role that FM professionals play in supporting and enabling business performance,” said Duncan Waddell, Chairman of Global FM.

The 2016 winners are:

Platinum Award of Excellence in FM: FMA Australia, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Australia

Gold Award of Excellence in FM: BIFM, Heathrow Airport Limited, UK

Silver Award of Excellence in FM: IFMA, Centostazioni S.p.A., Italy

Jaclyn Lee, co-ordinator of this year’s Global FM Awards said: “It was an honor to coordinate this year’s Global FM Awards program and work with such talented individuals. This year’s Awards program included 12 submissions from six countries and represented six different facility management associations. The judges had a difficult time narrowing down the submissions into the top three as all the submissions demonstrated excellence and innovation in facility management. Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s Awards program.”

Highlights of the winners:
Empowering People for a Productive World, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, submitted by FMA Australia

Over the last 12 months, Commonwealth Bank’s Property Operations team has been “raising the bar” by empowering people to identify and drive productivity initiatives. Innovation is at the heart of their ideology and the “test and fail fast” culture is embedded in the team. Results include: Contractor Attendance App, driving simplicity in managing work orders and reducing the required effort by 5%; solar panels in eight branches delivering sustainability outcomes, effectively removing one branch from the grid; and workspace innovation showcase to educate 6,000 customers on “workplace of the future.”

Learning and Development at Europe’s Leading Airport, Heathrow Airport Limited, submitted by the British Institute of Facilities Management

Heathrow Airport has run its apprentice scheme since 1977. With this and an extensive continuous learning and development program it has achieved a retention rate of over 70% since its inception. The team is also active in the community facilitating the Engineering Schools Challenge and science fairs, engaging with over 3500 pupils per annum, supporting STEM skills. With key FM roles such as the Duty Engineer, Systems Specialist and Maintenance Manager, they have built strong learning and development plans to ensure that all colleagues have a clear path of succession.

The Italian experience in service management in public buildings complex: the railway stations, Centostazioni S.p.A., submitted by IFMA Italy

The innovative management of services on 103 stations scattered throughout Italy, with different physical conditions was turned into a distinct perception for the passenger with a standard management policy by the FM function. Centostazioni has the purpose of implementing investment programs, and then managing the buildings to turn them into real multifunctional points to ensure a boost for commercial growth. This was achieved through strategic FM planning supported by effective economic controls.
