Ocean City Resort Transforms After Renovation

A representative from Ashore Resort & Beach Club shares the inspiration and challenges behind this renovation.

The Ashore Resort & Beach Club, a newly reimagined upscale resort destination set on a prime beachfront location in Ocean City, MD, completed a transformative renovation ahead of the summer season.

Following the property-wide renovation this spring, the resort features panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Assawoman Bay, oceanside food and beverage service and amenities, a new 3,000 sq. ft. deck overlooking the waves of the Atlantic, new restaurant concepts and lively beachfront entertainment.

The resort has 250 fully renovated guest rooms and suites, including 15 multi-room suites, catering to individuals, families and groups of all sizes. New guest rooms are designed with modern décor in calming earth tones and feature plush bedding, sophisticated lighting fixtures, 55-in. flatscreen televisions, spacious modern bathrooms and private balconies overlooking the beach. Bathrooms feature oversized mirrors with dimmable backlighting, white quartz countertops and a custom line of bespoke beauty products, provided in eco-friendly packaging. In-room amenities include oversized robes, high-speed Wi-Fi, coffee makers and mini fridges.

In addition to its accommodations and dining options, Ashore offers 14 meeting rooms with 40,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor flexible function spaces, a Ballroom with 7,500 square feet that can accommodate up to 1,000 people and a Beachside Pavilion ideal for wedding receptions, private beach parties, and team building activities.

To learn more about this new renovation, Facility Executive spoke with Katherine Cosgrove, Director of Sales and Marketing for Ashore.

Facility Executive: What inspired you to revamp the Ashore Resort & Beach Club? How long did it take to complete this renovation from conception to completion?

Katherine Cosgrove: The inspiration for this property came from a combination of factors, and it took us from December 2022 to an anticipated completion date of early summer to bring it to life. We embarked on a journey to completely reimagine the resort experience, starting from the ground up. The property provided a remarkable foundation, with its beautiful bones and a breathtaking location. Situated on an incredible piece of the oceanfront, it offered a perfect canvas to create something extraordinary.

Our inspiration was deeply rooted in the surrounding natural world, particularly the beach. We wanted to capture the essence of the beach and infuse it into every aspect of the property’s design. The elements of space and design were carefully crafted to reflect the beauty and tranquility of the ocean. From conceptualizing the design elements to selecting the finest materials, we spared no effort in creating an exceptional experience for our guests.

Overall, the journey from inception to completion spanned several months, but it was a labor of love driven by our passion to create an inspiring space that would appeal to guests of all ages.

FE: Did you face any challenges during this renovation? If so, how did you overcome them?

Cosgrove: We had a big, inspired vision in mind, and we were determined to bring it to life by the summer season. Working against an ambitious timeline was a challenge, but one that fueled our team and our partners to work swiftly. We set high expectations for ourselves and were committed to delivering the renovated property on schedule. We’re pleased to see that our efforts paid off and we managed to stay right on track with the timeline.

FE: From your perspective, how do you feel about this new renovation? How has this enhanced the guest experience at Ashore Resort & Beach Club?

Cosgrove: I am incredibly excited about the Ashore Resort & Beach Club and believe that this transformation is poised to elevate the profile of the Ocean City region. By offering a resort experience, we contribute to enhancing the overall reputation and appeal of the area. This improvement not only benefits Ashore Resort & Beach Club but also has a positive impact on the entire community and economy of OC.

One of the key enhancements brought about by this renovation is the ability to attract a new clientele. With the updated facilities, we can now cater to a wider range of groups, conferences, weddings, and events in a way that was not possible before. From the moment they step foot on the property, guests will be greeted with a heightened level of comfort, luxury, and attention to detail. The enhanced guest experience translates into unforgettable memories and moments that they will cherish. We’re also looking forward to providing locals and guests not staying at the hotel with additional food and beverage destinations to enjoy.

FE: What has the reaction been like to this renovation? What do you hope your guests will take away from their experience at this resort?

Cosgrove: The reaction to the renovation at Ashore Resort & Beach Club has been overwhelmingly positive from stakeholders, staff, and guests alike.

For staff members, being part of this renovation has been an exhilarating experience. They take pride in being able to contribute to creating an environment where guests can make memories by living in them.

Guests have been delighted by the transformation, as it offers them the opportunity to unplug, find serenity, and feel like they are a world away in their own happy place. We strive to create an atmosphere that allows our guests to be fully present and immersed in the moment, becoming deeply connected to the beach life experience. Our aim is for guests to feel like they never have to leave, ensuring that every aspect of their stay is curated to perfection.

Cosgrove: Patience is crucial throughout the process. Major renovations can be complex and time-consuming, so it’s important to remain patient and not rush through any crucial steps. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither will your renovation project.

Assembling the right team is essential. Surround yourself with experienced professionals who have a proven track record in successfully executing similar projects. The expertise and skills of your team members will greatly impact the outcome of the renovation. Make sure to carefully select partners and contractors who align with your vision and have the capability to bring it to life.
