Clemson University expanded its 25-year partnership with Johnson Controls through a new $45M net zero campus initiative.
Through the campus-wide improvements, Clemson University is projected to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2025, a major milestone toward its 2030 carbon neutrality goal. The updates will foster a modernized environment for learning and living, while generating estimated savings of more than $3M annually throughout the 15-year contract.
The project will benefit the entire Clemson University community of approximately 28,000 students, 5,500 faculty and staff, and other key stakeholders including parents, potential students, visitors, vendors, and clients.

By expanding our partnership with Johnson Controls to make campus-wide sustainability updates, we are advancing toward our environmental targets while investing in our own student experience.”
Johnson Controls will install comprehensive energy conservation solutions, including LED lighting, laboratory controls, HVAC, and building envelope improvements. These deployments were selected after rigorous evaluations to identify solutions that will align with the university’s environmental goals while modernizing amenities to support a healthy, safe and rewarding student experience and cut operating costs.
Johnson Controls maintains a presence in nearly 3,000 North American colleges and universities, working with administrative and facilities teams to deliver campus environments that power critical outcomes.
